About
At the intersection of military precision and world-class visual journalism, AMVJ trains the operators behind the lens, active-duty Sailors and Marines who shape how America sees itself, and how the world sees America's military.
AMVJ is a Department of the Navy-sponsored program built around three mission-critical areas of study: Advanced Photojournalism and Advanced Graphic Design, anchored in the visual communications department, and Advanced Motion Media, rooted in broadcast, digital journalism, and television, radio, and film.
The service members who enter AMVJ are already professionals, mass communication specialists, public affairs operators, photographers, graphic designers, and videographers serving in the Navy and Marine Corps. They arrive at Newhouse ready to work. Over 10 months, they complete intensive coursework in communications, photography, journalism, design, sound, and documentary production, emerging as elite visual storytellers, earning 30 credits toward an undergraduate degree, with a direct path to matriculation at Newhouse.
